Leave what we can’t face today for tomorrow

At night when the streets are quiet, the air is still and the distant lights are alive, everything seems muted. Your troubles seem so far away, and for a moment, you can almost believe that they do not exist at all. Tonight, nothing can touch you. Tonight, when the only things moving are those distant lights and your steady breaths, you are safe.

And tomorrow is a new day, a new day to face what you were unable to face before. Because tomorrow you will be braver. Tomorrow you will breathe in new air; tomorrow you will be just that tad bit stronger; tomorrow you will be untouchable.

But the idea of tomorrow will not make us invincible. It will only make us forget to live today. And if we forget that, then it’s a real shame because one day your last tomorrow will arrive and suddenly you will wish for a today; suddenly you will wish for a yesterday; suddenly you will wish that you could have travelled through your life in a different manner. A manner where you face your problems, your flaws and your troubles head-on; where you embrace the imperfections of today because it’s those imperfections that makes today different from every other ‘today’.

And if we choose to live in this manner – if you choose to live in this manner, then at night when the streets are quiet, the air is still and the distant lights are alive, everything becomes amplified and for the first time, you are more than just your steady breaths. Your fingers are tingling, your ears are drumming, your lips are humming to the tune of a breeze passing through the night. For the first time, you are alive.
